I don't believe the 1941 Alabama team should be listed as a national champion. They finished 9-2 that year. Minnesota finished 8-0 and was named the AP champion. Texas finished 8-1-1 and was named champion by a few lesser polls.

I agree that Bama's numerous MNCs are representative of an era where you were a national champion if some small podunk paper named you #1, but this is not really the place to decide if a MNC is valid or not. Frankly, if USC can claim that they were national champs in 2003, Bama should be able to claim that they were national champs every year up to 1992.

Until a true playoff system is in place, there is no way to decide with 100% certainty who is #1 every year. Until then, we can only put asterisks on those MNCs that we see as disputable.
