History

The Sun Belt Conference (SBC) was formed in 1976. In 1991, the SBC absorbed schools from then-American South Conference to form the new Sun Belt Conference. Schools have come and gone in the past 30 years, but the Sun Belt Conference continues to be a forerunner in Division I athletics The SBC currently sponsors 19 varsity sports. Schools in the Sun Belt have participated in the Men's and Women's Final 4, Baseball College World Series, Softball College World Series, and have produced several individual and team national champions. The Sun Belt Conference has also produced numerous NFL Pro Bowlers, MLB All-Stars, and professional golfers. The Sun Belt Conference also makes sure that student-athletes are students first. Eleven (11) Sun Belt schools currently graduate student-athletes at higher rates than the student body. In 1999, the Sun Belt Conference became the 11th football playing conference in Division I-A.

After the recent round of conference realignment, the current Sun Belt Conference schools are listed below.
