The University of Louisiana at Monroe is located in Monroe, Louisiana. The school's mascot, which had been the Indians since its inception in the thirties, was changed to the Warhawks on April 5, 2006 after NCAA legislation prompted many member schools to abandon their Native American mascots.

ULM is a founding member of the Sun Belt Conference Football League (founded in 2001) and became a full-member of the Sun Belt Conference in all sports on July 1, 2006.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe was founded in 1931. It is currently a selective-admissions, state-funded institution of higher education and a member of the University of Louisiana System. Located on the banks of Bayou Desiard in the eastern part of Monroe, the campus encompasses more than 230 acres, over 50 buildings and an off-site farm. ULM has a current enrollment of more than 9,000 students and counts more than 50,000 graduates as its alumni. The student body -- which includes over 1,100 graudate students -- come to Monroe from 42 states and over 50 foreign countries.
