Louisiana Monroe

The University of Louisiana at Monroe is located in Monroe, Louisiana. The school's mascot, which had been the Indians since its inception in the thirties, was changed to the Warhawks on April 5, 2006 after NCAA legislation prompted many member schools to abandon their Native American mascots.
ULM is a founding member of the Sun Belt Conference Football League (founded in 2001) and became a full-member of the Sun Belt Conference in all sports on July 1, 2006.
The University of Louisiana at Monroe was founded in 1931. It is currently a selective-admissions, state-funded institution of higher education and a member of the University of Louisiana System. Located on the banks of Bayou Desiard in the eastern part of Monroe, the campus encompasses more than 230 acres, over 50 buildings and an off-site farm. ULM has a current enrollment of more than 9,000 students and counts more than 50,000 graduates as its alumni. The student body -- which includes over 1,100 graudate students -- come to Monroe from 42 states and over 50 foreign countries.

Stan Humphries led the then Northeast Louisiana University Indians to the 1987 I-AA championship as he passed for 1,397 yards and 11 touchdowns in the school's four playoff wins. Humphries was a first-team All-American, the Southland Conference and Louisiana Offensive Player of the Year. He played 10 years in the National Football League with the Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers, playing in the Super Bowl with San Diego in 1995. Humphries, a member of the ULM Hall of Fame, had his jersey (#11) retired in March 1995.
Joe Profit was the all-time leading rusher of the Gulf States Conference with 2,818 yards and ended his career on top of the Northeast Louisiana State College all-time leading rusher. Profit rushed for more than 100 yards 13 times in his collegiate career on his way to becoming ULM's only first-round NFL draft pick. Profit is a member of both the ULM and Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame and has the distinction of being the first player at the university to have his jersey (#40) retired, which occurred following his senior season.
