The Pennsylvania State University is located in University Park, Pennsylvania and was established in 1855 as a land grant institution. The goal was to apply scientific principles to farming, a radical departure from the traditional curriculum grounded in mathematics, rhetoric, and classical languages. It is now an Internationally known university that boasts more then 40,000 undergraduates. Historically, Penn State's rivals have included Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Syracuse, Alabama, and Notre Dame.
