The University of Louisville is a state supported research university located in Kentucky's largest metropolitan area. It was a municipally supported public institution for many decades prior to joining the university system in 1970. The University has three campuses. The 287-acre Belknap Campus is three miles from downtown Louisville and houses seven of the university's 11 colleges and schools. The Health Sciences Center is situated in downtown Louisville's medical complex and houses the university's health related programs and the University of Louisville Hospital.

Athletics:
UofL has had many great athletes pass through, and a good basketball program under legendary coaches Denny Crum and Rick Pitino. The football program has risen in prominence since the early 90's with Howard Schnellenburger, John L. Smith and Bobby Petrino, leading the Cards. UofL's biggest rivals are Kentucky of the SEC, Memphis of Conference USA, also West Virginia and Cincinnati of the Big East. The Cards, members of the Big Eastjoined in 2005. Prior to joining the Big East, UofL was a member of Conference USA and the Metro Conference.

  • Jay Gruden-In the AFL Hall of Fame, Voted #4 player in league history, Was Head Coach of the 1996 & 1998 AFL Champion Orlando Predators.
  • Mark Clayton-5 time Pro Bowl WR & is still the current AFC Single Season TD reception record holder with 18 TD's caught in 1984.
  • Tom Jackson-selected by the Denver Broncos in the 1973 NFL Draft. Enjoyed a 14-year career in Denver where he was a 3 time Pro Bowl selection, a 2 time All-Pro selection, and was voted Denver's Most Inspirational Player six times. Jackson also assisted the team to Championship appearances in Super Bowl XII and Super Bowl XXI. Since 1987 he has worked for ESPN providing Football coverage.
