The Central Collegiate Hockey Association consists of 12 schools in 5 states. The CCHA is one of the only hockey only conferences that does not have a Women's division. The CCHA is one of the premiere D-1 hockey conferences in the nation. The majority of its 12 member schools are among the most historic hockey programs in the NCAA.

History

The CCHA started in 1971 when the head coaches of Bowling Green (Jack Vivian), Lake Superior State (Ron Mason), and St. Louis (Bill Selman) all met in Boston. A scheduling agreement was made with Bowling Green, Ohio State, Ohio, and St. Louis. In 1972, Lake Superior State joined the league.

Over the course of the league's history, the CCHA has moved from Division II to Division I and has seen several member come, and rejoin.
