Traditions
- The Falcons - On October 28, 1927 the nickname "The Falcons" was created by the sports editor of the Daily Sentinel-Tribune. He thought the nickname was fitting because it was indicative of a powerful bird that was small in stature, its coloring represented the Bowling Green school colors, and like the athlete, the Falcon is a bird that goes through a long period of training before battle. The Air Force Academy would later take the same mascot in 1959.
- Colors - Burnt Orange and Seal Brown (The Cleveland Browns took their colors from Bowling Green's)
- Fight Songs - Forward Falcons, "Ay-Ziggy-Zoomba" made famous by alumnus Mike Weger in the film "Paper Lion" by George Plimpton.
- Mascots: Freddie Falcon, Frieda Falcon
