Ball Diamond is located one mile off campus next to Ball State Stadium and has all the necessities needed to excell at baseball. Ball Diamond has a top notch playing surface with 5 bullpen mounds and three spacious batting cages. Ball Diamond also has a turf “halo” with the Cardinals insignia.
The Ball State baseball field underwent a major face lift after the 2001 season. Replacing the fence that once served as the backstop for the facility is a brick wall along with a protective net. The new backstop, made possible by generous contributions from Ball State Alumni and other contributors, stretches from dugout to dugout. In 2004, the park’s sound system was updated thanks to a donation from the sixth first-round draft pick in school history, Brad Snyder. In 2005, the Cardinals added an astroturf halo around home plate, while in 2006, improvements were made to the outfield fence. The additions only enhance the diamond’s reputation as one of the finest playing surfaces in the Midwest. Ball Diamond, which features seating for 1,700, measures 330 feet down each line, 365 feet to the power alleys and 400 feet to center field with an 8-foot fence surrounding the entire field. Slats in the outfield fence and shrubbery outside the fence provide an excellent hitting background.
